“After leaving a bad marriage and losing custody of my children, I was desperate to support myself so I could get my children back. When I found a job online that promised accommodation, a great salary and benefits – I should have known that it was too good to be true.

I arrived at the location which turned out to be a motel, which I found strange but given my desperation and lack of experience, I wasn’t sure what was normal and what wasn’t. Before I knew it, I was attacked, drugged and tied to a bed.

For countless days, different men came to the room and raped me. They injected me with drugs, and deprived me of food so I was weak and in a constant daze.

The police brought me to Nisa Homes and I probably would never have recovered if it weren’t for the amazing women of Nisa Homes, who supported me every step of the way.

Eventually, one of the men took pity on me and took me to get something to eat. I don’t know exactly what tipped the staff off, maybe it was the way I looked or how I was eating, but thankfully they called the police. I don’t even know who they are, but they saved my life.

The police brought me to Nisa Homes and I probably would never have recovered if it weren’t for the amazing women of Nisa Homes, who supported me every step of the way. It took months and immense patience from the staff to help me recover from the trauma, the suicidal thoughts, and the fear I lived in.

Alhamdulilah I’ve come so far, having moved out now. My journey is far from over but their support hasn’t wavered and I pray for them every single day.”

This story is based on a real Nisa Homes’ client. However, details and names have been changed to protect identities of all involved.
