“Very early on in my marriage, I had a suspicion that my husband wasn’t well. I always felt he had a mental health disorder but whenever I suggested seeing or speaking to someone, he said he wasn’t ‘crazy’ and that I should go get help because I was imagining things.

That being said, things were generally ok. Then he lost his job due to COVID-19. When days became weeks became months without a new job, things started getting ugly.

He was constantly accusing me of cheating on him, saying that I was stealing all his money and that we were conspiring against him so he couldn’t work. He started drinking soon after and I was terrified for my children and I. Things kept getting worse to the point where he destroyed all our electronics. I was able to hide my phone and decided to call his brother, the only person I knew he trusted.

Unfortunately, that only made matters worse.

He accused us of conspiring against him the whole time. He got into a physical fight with his brother. I didn’t want my children seeing that or getting hurt themselves, so I grabbed them and ran to a neighbor. They called the police, my husband was arrested and they put us in touch with Nisa Homes.

I know he ended up in the hospital but refused to stay or get treatment. None of us know where he is now, not even his family. I pray he gets better, but in the meantime, with Nisa Homes’ support, I’ve found a job, an apartment and I’m focusing on my children and helping them heal from the trauma we all experienced.”
