Domestic Violence: 3 of 4

Your husband used to always tell you that if you ever leave him, you will end up on the street begging for money and food. He always threatened to take all the money if you should leave him even though you had very little access to the money to begin with. Your only support in this city is your dear friend Sara. Your husband doesn't like her.
He prevented you from texting, calling, and meeting her. You felt so isolated and alone, like no one knew or cared for you. He makes you feel worthless most of the time, belittling everything you say or do in front of family and friends. You are a teacher and he always made fun of your choice of career, but you loved your job back home.
You know that you are a smart woman but after all that has happened and what he said to you so many times, you have lost all confidence in yourself – maybe you are not good enough or inferior here in Canada. Sometimes, there are moments where it is just too much, and you believe all the lies. How do you figure out the truth?

After you arrive to Nisa Homes, you will be given a case worker. Your case worker will work with you to identify and plan to achieve all your goals including finding safe and affordable housing.
You can stay up to three months at Nisa Homes and your case worker will help you.

Nisa Homes believes that social support is an important component of the healing process. Of course, you must reach out to your trusted friends or family. However, the location of Nisa Home cannot be shared with anyone, including family or friends, to ensure all residents’ safety, so we have a predetermined pick-up and drop location nearby.

Your assigned case worker will work with you to make sure you find good rental place within your budget.
She will also brainstorm with you on how you can increase your source of income and help you apply for National Zakat Foundation financial assistance when you first move out.

Nisa Homes does offer Supportive Counsellors who can help you in your emotional journey. Nisa Homes will also connect you with external community-based counsellors and psychologists, if that is your choice. We know that there is a healing journey and that it may take time. We will do our best to support you.

Nisa Homes can provide you with a safe, warm home and help you to make your own goals and find a solution so that you can have a place to call home.
