You came to Canada 5 years ago, sponsored by your new husband and his family; now you share two sons, aged three and one. When you first arrived, you realised that he was extremely controlling and manipulative, accusing you of multiple affairs. The violence began, slowly at first, but after getting pregnant the abuse became more intense and more physical.

You were 6 months pregnant the first time you lost a baby, after he pushed you and you fell hard onto the floor. The second and third pregnancies was less physical but more verbal. One time, he threw you out of the apartment late at night during a cold winter night and you were alone and cold, with nowhere to go.

It was hard dealing with the emotional rollercoaster – not knowing if today was going to be a good day or a bad day. Many times, he begged for forgiveness and swore he would change. Then he beat your son, who was only 3 years old – just a baby. You don’t know what to do and you don’t know what your rights are or what resources are available for you in Canada.

Nisa Homes can offer you Remote Casework support where you can identify your own goals and we will help you to achieve them without coming to live in our home.

You are Muslim but you don’t wear hijab or pray. Will Nisa Homes make you wear hijab or pray if you come to stay in the Home?

Nisa Homes offers a safe place for all women who are vulnerable in the community. It is not our place to judge, only to serve and support. We do not ask women who need our help to wear hijab nor do we force people to pray. We do offer group sessions for spiritual guidance (halaqa).

Nisa Homes can provide you with a safe, warm home and help you to make your own goals and find a solution so that you can have a place to call home.
