4 years ago, I walked into Nisa Homes with my 6 children in tow and not a single personal possession except the bag my handbag. My husband had abandoned my children and I, choosing to go back home and marry the woman he was always in love with but couldn’t marry because of his parents. Needless to say, my stay at Nisa Homes was very difficult with my 6, very active, kids. Going to appointments, finding a job or housing was just a huge challenge. I didn’t know what to do or how I would get on my feet, my only outlet was my food and cooking. I would cook dinner for the whole house every night and the smiles it brought to the other women’s faces kept me going.

When the workers at Nisa Homes discovered my passion for cooking, they helped me start selling some baked goods for Ramadan. I initially did it for fun, but I couldn’t believe it when they told me they had posted about them online and we sold out within a couple of days! Alhamdulilah with the money from that project, I was able to find a basement to rent from a nice Muslim family. Then I got to work in starting my own catering company. The Nisa Homes workers continued to support me, provide me with advice and mentorship. Now 3 years later, my catering is going really well alhamdulilah and I’m even getting booked for huge corporate events! I was even able to purchase a car and I am now able to support my whole family entirely by myself alhamdulilah!
