We Heal Together:

Uniting to End Violence Against Women

16 Days of Activism Against Gender-based Violence

Gender-based Violence Costs Lives...

The statistics around domestic violence are so shocking and heartbreaking. While it’s someone else who experiences the abuse, the ripples are felt throughout the community. It’s time for us to break the silence and start talking about it.

Transform communities by ending gender-based violence.

What are the 16 Days of Activism?

16 Days of Activism Against Gender-based Violence is a campaign that brings together people from all over the world to speak up, start conversations and renew their dedication to eradicate gender-based violence from our communities.

These 16 days start on November 25th (International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women) and end on December 10th (International Human Rights Day). In Canada, we also commemorate the École Polytechnique massacre on December 6th as the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women.

Help us create safe spaces for women and girls experiencing violence.

Coming Together to End Gender-based Violence

During these 16 Days of Activism, Nisa Foundation programs will be uniting to eradicate violence against women.

Understanding the Challenges and Barriers

Muslim women face an intersection of challenges when it comes to gender-based violence, such as poverty and homelessness, mental health, and Islamophobia. Nisa Foundation programs are working to create solutions for these three challenges so that women can get the help they need to thrive.

Poverty & Homelessness

Approximately 699 women and 236 accompanying children are turned away from domestic violence shelters across Canada each day. (WNHHN)

Many women don’t seek help because they have nowhere to go when they leave.

Mental Health

Women with histories of physical violence have significantly higher incidences of depression

 (Canadian Women’s Foundation).

Islamophobia

Premised on the stereotype that Muslim women are powerless victims of their religious tradition, visibly Muslim women often face discrimination and Islamophobia while seeking help.

Nisa Foundation tackles gender-based violence by raising awareness, eliminating stereotypes through dialogue, and integrating mental health support into programs for holistic care.

Beyond shelter, we provide a pathway to independence through education, resources and employment, empowering women for lasting positive change.

Join us in providing end-to-end services to transform communities across Canada.

What can you do to get involved and spread awareness?
