Domestic Violence: Final Journey Statement

Nisa Homes was there for you in the moments...

When you felt like no one was there to help. The team supported you to achieve so many things that now you feel confident to start a new life. Whether you needed help to reconcile, remote casework or shelter in our home – Nisa Homes team was there for you. Your caseworker was able to help you sort your banking situation and ensure that you have independence, making sure no more debt could be accrued to your name.

Your Supportive Counsellor was there to listen. She made time for you and understood that it can take a while to process everything that has happened. If you stayed in the home, our wellness program with group sessions was something you really enjoyed — cooking, crafts and learning how to take care of yourself.

Your caseworker helped you to reconnect with your family back home, and you were found eligible to receive financial assistance for you and your children. Your children have had a lot of fun learning new skills while receiving individual support from their childcare worker. She has helped you to identify their strengths and the areas that they many need some help in – in addition to providing both you and your caseworker support with any referrals that they need for services in the community.

Your caseworker also helped you to find a new home, make a list of everything you need and apply for financial assistance from National Zakat Foundation so that you will have all that you need to set up your home. If you chose to stay in the home, you were able to continue with receiving support for up to 6 months after you left – just to be sure that if ever you need help, that Nisa Homes was there for you.

Approximately 63% of the women who seek help from Nisa Homes are victims of domestic violence.
“My name is Hajra. From the minute I entered Nisa Homes, my life changed. I thought that my life was over, I had no family, no husband, no job, no money and 4 young children. I thought I was on my own, and how could I do this all on my own. The one friend I had was being told to stay away from me by her family and husband. I even started thinking about going back home, even though I knew I couldn't because the police were involved after I was taken to the hospital with a concussion. My family had been begging me to leave and go back home where they could help and support the kids and I, but I was scared, and I didn't want to end my marriage. I just wanted to violence to stop.

Within days of coming to Nisa Homes, it felt like I was home and surrounded by family. The women there became my best friends, my best sisters, and my best family. The workers at Nisa Homes gave me options and helped another client and I start our home business alhamdulilah! Their support even after we moved out is the only reason, I've made it this far and although I don't have much, I give back to Nisa Homes by getting them groceries every month in the hopes that Nisa Homes can help other women like me.”
