You come to Canada on a Student Visa as an international student for a one-year program. You meet a man from your college who is also an international student. You start to talk to him and begin to like him. You notice some red flags from the comments he makes sometimes but you look past it, hoping it will change after marriage.
He gets a job offer in a different province with the possibility of applying for permanent residency through one of their Provincial Nominee programs. The two of you decide to get married before his move, in hopes that you would join him after you have completed your certificate program. After he moves, he informs you that as his spouse you can be included in his application for permanent residency.
He convinces you that for this purpose, you would need to share all your accounts and passwords with him. You find that a bit strange, but you still go ahead and share this information. A few days later, he makes threatening phone calls that he will break off your marriage if you continue to exchange emails with your male colleagues at college. You are concerned with this aggression, but you look past it, thinking this will change after you move in with him.
After finishing the program in June, you move provinces to live with him. The move is going great so far, and you feel like you could make this marriage work despite his anger outbursts occasionally. You have a few more months left on your student visa, so you decide to look for a job. However, when you have a discussion with him, it turns into an argument and he insists that you stop going ahead with your plans.

Nisa Homes caseworkers will complete an initial assessment to determine whether we are able to provide you with the support you need. If there is a bed available, we will work together to make a safe plan for you to enter the Home.

You speak with a caseworker and after answering some questions, you begin to panic and realise that your anxiety is overwhelming, and you need more time before you can decide to leave – even if your husband is becoming more unpredictable and violent. You plan to speak with the caseworker again the following day. After a few days, you are ready to come to Nisa Homes.

You can choose to receive remote casework support if that is what is going to be best for you. The support we offer is very similar and depends very much on the goals that you make and what you need our support in order to achieve them.

Nisa Homes peut vous fournir une maison sûre et chaleureuse et vous aider à fixer vos propres objectifs et à trouver une solution pour que vous puissiez avoir un chez-vous.
