Domestic Violence: 4 of 4

Your husband applied for a master card and a visa card under your name. He used it to make purchases and transactions under your name without your consent. He never paid the monthly repayment, and now, you are in debt. You two also have a shared bank account. You have a debit card, but he took it away from you and when you needed money, he would make you beg for it.
Several months ago, he took your phone away. You were not permitted to communicate with your family back home. He was also afraid that you would tell you friend Sara about the treatment you were receiving. You have not spoken to your family back home in many months and you are sure they are very worried about you, but they do not have any way to contact you.
Your husband cannot control his anger. He breaks everything when he is angry. He has broken many plates and cups sets. He once smashed the mirror just because you told him that you wanted to wear your floral dress when you go see his parents.
He ripped that dress off and told you that you should not be wearing any of your dresses outside of the house. You are so worried for your young boys; they have witnessed what their father used to do to you. Your son used to beg him not to hit you. Your husband beat your eldest son even though he just 3 years old, but he also threatened to harm your children more if you end up leaving him.

Your caseworker will support you in figuring out how to solve this and plan together with you. This includes figuring out your financial situation and getting rid of other credit and debit accounts. Your case worker will guide you through the process — you are not alone when trying to figure out how to do this as we understand that this can be daunting in a new country.

Your caseworker will work with you very closely to help you with your goals and needs. She will conduct a Needs Assessment which includes all your social, financial, emotional, mental, health needs. Together you will be able to make goals to achieve in your time with Nisa Homes. If you need to get a phone and sim card, your case worker will work with you to obtain one.

Your case worker will help you to make a list of items that you would need to settle in your new place. This includes furniture, cleaning supplies, food kit, personal hygiene products, bedding, clothing, gift cards, etc. Your case worker will try to secure everything on your list before you move out to your own place. Nisa Homes will support you to apply for financial assistance with National Zakat Foundation to get you started on your way if your case meets their requirements. Nisa Homes will continue to provide support to you even after you move out, with our remote casework program.

Almost 50% of Nisa Home residents are children and we make it a priority to provide a safe, warm, and welcoming environment for the children staying at Nisa Home. Our Children’s Program focuses on having fun, building social skills, and strengthening coping mechanisms. We also make referrals to children therapy programs outside of the home.
