Dhul Hijjah 2023

Urgent Appeal: 152 women & children are on the waitlist for safe shelter.

Shelters nationwide are facing higher demand than ever before, and many have reached capacity, turning away hundreds of women and children every night.

Since the beginning of 2023, over 100 women and children are waiting for safe shelter with us every month. These are women and children who are currently living in unsafe homes fearing for their lives, have been turned out on the streets by their families, or have left everything they know for a brand-new country, with limited knowledge of the language and system.

These women are not strangers – they are in our community, in our neighbourhoods, in our schools, in our workplaces – and their story intertwines with ours. Her story is our story, and the responsibility for their safety lies with us.

This Dhul Hijjah, donate to provide women & children with food, safe shelter, and support they urgently need and rightfully deserve!

Her Story is Our Story

Like the Muslimahs of the past whose stories are an example for us in strength, courage, and resilience in the face of adversity, so too are the stories of the women who come to Nisa Homes.

She is courageous like Sumaiya (RA), when she makes the decision to leave her abusive relationship.

She is resilient like Aasiya (AS) when she faces the challenges after leaving, fighting to survive.

She has perseverance like Hajar (RA) when she puts herself through school or starts a business to provide a better life for her children.

Like the countless Muslimah from our Islamic history who are examples for us all, her story is also one of faith, dedication, and strengthHer story is our story.

Donate now and become part of her story.

Who We Are & What We Do

Amira’s Story

Amira embodies the enduring qualities that have defined Muslimahs throughout history. A mother of five, she lived in constant fear for her life because of her abusive husband and in-laws. After her husband threatened to harm her children, she knew that enough was enough.

With the help of the police, she gathered her essentials and left her abusive home with her children.

They found safety at Nisa Homes but faced challenges due to Amira‘s isolation during her marriage, as she had no community support, limited English and no knowledge of navigating the system.

But with her dedication to build a decent life for her children and with the support of the staff at Nisa Homes, Amira was able to secure a job, a place of her own and start over with her children!
