You once asked your daughter to show you how to navigate your online banking. She got irritated and told you that you did not need to learn online banking since you do not have anything in your bank account anyway. She also said that her husband is getting impatient with the fact that you are living with them because he is spending so much money for your food.
You felt so embarrassed and ashamed to be in this situation. You have also been taking anti-depressant medication. It was hard for you to tell your family and your son in law made you feel like you are a crazy person. You were so ashamed to admit it. Your own grandchildren fear you now because he told them many times that you are crazy and that’s why you’ve been locked in the basement.
Your heart is breaking. Now you are at Nisa Homes, you have absolutely no belongings and no furniture. When you left your daughter’s house, you only could take your two suitcases. You cry to yourself a lot, remembering the warm home you shared with your dear husband, that you sold and gave the money to your daughter and her husband. You realize now how naïve you were.

Your case worker can help you in cancelling your current bank account and opening a new one. She will also help you to learn financial life skills so that you are financially independent and can navigate all your banking information before moving out. Nisa Homes has a financial assistance program to help you with your personal expenses while you are with us.

Nisa Homes is understanding of the various challenges that women face in abusive environments.  We need to be sure that we can help each woman with our existing services. We conduct a thorough intake assessment to ensure that our service is appropriate for your needs.  An applicant with a managed condition with appropriate medical supervision is assessed on a case-by-case basis.

Your case workers will help you to make a list of items that you would need to settle in your new place. This includes furniture, cleaning supplies, food kit, personal hygiene products, bedding, clothing, gift cards, etc. Your case worker will try to secure everything on your list before you move out to your own place. Nisa Homes will continue to provide support to you even after you move out, with our remote casework program.
