Your husband has passed away recently. After he passed away, you did not have enough money to support yourself. You sold the family home you raised your children in, giving the proceeds to your daughter and son-in-law. They asked to have control of your bank accounts, so you made the arrangements and moved to live at your daughter and son-in-law’s home, with their three teenage children.

Even after all of this, your son-in-law was still not happy with this arrangement, but he gave you a room in the un-finished basement. It is very cold and damp, especially in the winter. You are not included in family dinners or outings and over the next five years, the situation becomes worse every day. You cannot believe the child you had dedicated so much of your life raising could treat you like this.

You know that your time living there was not going to last for much longer, and you are constantly filled with dread and anxiety over this, your health has become worse and it has become harder for you to move around as the arthritis in your back and knees is worsened by the cold and damp weather.

One day, your son-in-law told you that you need to move by the end of the month because they wanted to finish the basement and lease it for extra income. You are desperate and humiliated. You begged but could not say or do anything to change his mind and your daughter would not even look at you. You tried to beg him again and tell him that you have nowhere to go. You are lost and alone, all you want is to die in peace.
